This is the 1st Video Game System that Amstrad released. They wanted to get into the game with the big boys, like Nintendo and Sega. They thought that they could do all right because their Amstrad CPC Plus was doing ok in Europe. The GX4000 came out in 1990. With in a couple of months, It Died…
This System was an 8 Bit in a 16 Bit area. The SNES and the Genesis killed it fast. It only got 40 games to come out on it, and only half were even unique to it. Some of the games were remake or releases from the CPC. This did not help the sale at all. CPC games at the time were only £3.99 on cassette, when the cartridges were £29! This is what really killed the sales of this system.
After watching YouTube videos about the GX4000, I can see that they did a great job with the games. They were almost to SNES, but choose not to see what it could do. One Title that was really great was Robocop 2. I really liked how they did the game. It looked better then the NES version! It’s sad to think about what they could have done.
If you get a chance to try this one out, make sure to give it a try!
